DSCC received a 2016 Rise Collaborative Grant to design and implement The Pocket Park Project this year. The goal of the projectis to organize the community living near Minnie Wood and Laclede Parks, to work together in planning and implementing phased park improvements.

In phase 1 we conducted canvassing with a Park Use Survey and Social Capital Survey in the two-three block radius of the two parks. We hosted public meetings and met with local stakeholders about the vision for future park use. We also collaborated with local artists Sarah Paulson, Dail Chambers and Aziza Binti with the support of the Regional Arts Commission to use animation as part of the visioning process. Check out the Animate Your Park video to see how the creative process was used to gather ideas from community members across age, race and language.

In Phase 2 we are looking to work with resident leaders in a "Friends of Pocket Parks" initiative to bring the plan to life. If you are interested in planning events, fundraising or beautification at Minnie Wood or Laclede, please reach out to amanda@dutchtownsouth.org for more information.
